Carmel Garden, the first matriculation school for boy’s in the cotton city of Coimbatore was started on the first of June 1964 by the Coimbatore Catholic Diocesan Society under the auspices of the RC Mission. This Institution was founded by his Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis M. Savarimuthu, the then Bishop of Coimbatore. The School was put to fence in a vast campus of seven and half acres in a prime locality between Sungam and Redfields. It flagged off with six classrooms nurturing a strength of 87 boys from classes three to six. The management was keen to extend the benefit of English medium to student population. The academic year 2011-2012 holds a strength of 2250 and 100 members of the faculty.

Carmel Garden, a prestigious Institution has produced many illustrious personalities and industrious business men. Our students have marked their chosen fields both in the domestic domain and of international recognition.

I, Rev. Fr. A. Maria Joseph took over as the Eighth Principal in June 2011. I present this Annual Report of the School for the year 2011-2012 with a proud privilege to express an expertise administration that will be exemplified with its sheer magnitude.

Infrastructure Generation:


The platform to generate ideal ventures to facilitate students atmosphere, various developments were made. They are…

Metalling open spaces around the blocks to prevent water stagnation during the wet season.
New Furnitures were added.

Future Plans:


- Additional classrooms
- Imparting Good Education through modern technology

Staff:


Carmel Garden is well acclaimed for its dedicated teaching and non-teaching force. They mark the strength and the pride of the Institution. The management wishes to appreciate their yeomen service to the Society and to this Institution.

Academic Achievements:


In the Higher Secondary Examinations of March 2011 the following were the achievements.
- 25 students scored more than 1000 marks out of 1200.
- P. L. Sridhar achieved the First Rank scoring 1165 out of 1200.
- Valentine Gerard Edward secured the Second rank with 1158 and P. Ganeshkumar secured the Third rank with 1156.
- 2 scored centum in Mathematics and one in Physics.

In the Matriculation Examination of March 2011, 150 students appeared expressing a result of 99.3%.
- G. Sivakumar scored 481 out of 500 and stood First. A. Julian Divakar scored the second place with 479 and Vennish Roy took the third rank with 475.
- 7 students scored centum in Maths.
- 7 students scored centum in Maths.
- Unit Test and Monthly Test system is regularly conducted for the out going classes. Parent Teacher meeting is convened exclusively for the 10th and 12th parents periodically.
- Parent Teacher meeting are regularly arranged for the Primary, High School and Higher Secondary.

This year the strength appearing for the Higher Secondary Examination is 121 and 150 for the X std. This gathers a total of 271 students. We request you to shower your blessings of prayers, that they may excel in the Board Exams.

In the field of Extra - Curricular activities, the platform has been expanded to explore the students potentials. Various gates of opportunities are opened to the students to enhance the young minds into productive experience. This year clubs were formed to activate the students in the last half hour of the day for five days of the week.

Our students participate in many cultural competitions held by various Organisations in the city and have brought home beneficial results in their exposure.

Sports:


The School constantly strives to achieve at this fore. We take good pride in our facilities. We do have in our School two Basketball courts one Badminton court, two Volleyball courts, one Football ground and a 200 mts. Track.

Football:


In the Zonal Tournament conducted in Coimbatore, Carmel Garden Junior Team bagged the Winner up.

Basket Ball:


The Basket ball team won the play under 14 category and stood the Winner up.

Lawn Tennis:


Master N. Venkataraman won the third place in the State competition and also took a participation role in the National Level Tennis Tournament. He also represented Tamilnadu under the 14 category in the All India Level and surged forward to take the 36th place.

Chess:


Master R. Ganesh of std X made a brilliant spell with a second place in the State Level Chess Tournament and bagged First Prize in the National Level conducted by the School Games Federation of India.

Track and Field:


A. Abishek finished to the First in 400 mts in the Zonal Level Meet. R. Raj Surya tested to present for the State Level Athletic Meet. The Sports wind proudly presents its Air wing Troop. Our Carmel Garden Cadets performed enthusitically in the CATC (Combined Annual Training Camp) in good position for the Coimbatore Division Level for the past three years.

The Road Safety Patrol Wing:


Sprawled at the nook of the Sungam Junction, the School takes pride in its RSP wing. They are wonderfully meeting the day to day challenges in regularizing the flow of traffic inside the campus and on the Main Road.

Social Events:


The feast of Our Lady of Carmel was celebrated on 16th July. Very Rev. Msgr. Kulandairaj presided over the function with the host of Reverend Fathers of the Diocese. They blessed the occassion amidst a galore of dances and sequences.

The Independence Day was celebrated in National style. Lion. Mr. K.G. Ramakrishna Murthy presided on the day and elucidated on the theme “Youth are the citizens for the future”.

The 19th of August marked a festive Sports Day. Our Chairman His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Aquinas, the Bishop of Coimbatore presided over the function and Mr. Gunasekar, Inspector of Matriculation Schools was the Chief Guest. BOSCO House bagged the First place.

Children’s Day marked a thumping success on the happiness of the students. Many competitions were conducted separately for the Primary, High and Higher Secondary and the whole week was jubilating in orientating and focusing the students towards exploring their skills effectively. The winners were awarded with Shields, Books and Certificates on the Christmas Day function, presided by Rev. Fr. Pichaimuthu.

The advent of Christmas was marked first on the 22nd with Christmas celebrations. The Primary School highlighted the message of Love in a tableau. The year ended with our teachers singing in choir the Christmas carols on the eve of Christmas in various important centres.

In December 2010 there was a “folk history” of Christmas songs called the United Carols of Carmel. Eighteen Institutions participated in the programme.

It was a love for an ancient practice Pongal 2011 was celebrated exclusively by Parents. The day brought on record a unique embossed effect.

Students Golden Achievements:


J.P. Saravanan of 2011 batch exemplified his student life with full attendance from LKG to XII std. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 20000/-
Mohamed Suhail was selected as MCA student at the age of 14 years by the Bharathiyar University. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 25000/-

Conclusion


As Principal of this Prestigious Institution Carmel Garden Matriculation Higher Secondary School, it is my privilege to express my sentiments of gratitude to our President of today’s function Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Aquinas, our Chairman and Bishop of Coimbatore who has so graciously accepted our invitation to be with us this evening. I thank our Chief Guest Shri. T.K. Ponnusamy, Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation and our Guest of honour Mr. S. Gobidass, Inspector of Matriculation Schools. Amidst a busy schedule, they have kindly reciprocated our invitation with a sense of Goodwill. We are indeed indebted in gratitude to our Mr. Dharanipathy Rajkumar, Secretary of Carmel Garden PTA and to Mr. Nandakumar, the President of the Carmel Garden Alumini Assoication. Let me also take this good opportunity to thank my faculty-teaching and non-teaching for their industrious co-operation to render a joyous venture for the betterment of the Institution. Finally let me thank all the Parents, Supporters, Guests, Friends from the Police and Media, Service providers and my student community of Participants, Volunteers, Past Pupils and the audience. I look forward to years ahead of intelligible, humble and healthy co-operation among us in this realm.
